The supermarket is a loot box, not a food store
12 Aug 2026 · 7 min

Walk into a supermarket and you're basically in a gacha game. The perimeter is the shop: meat, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, butter, honey. Everything else is a loot box with a 0.001% chance of containing actual nutrition.

The middle aisles are not food. They're engineering projects dressed as snacks: refined flour, seed oil, sugar, and enough additives to make a chemist blush. Each one has a mascot, a health claim, and a label longer than your D&D backstory.
I give every new mentee the same week-one quest: only buy what your great-grandfather would recognise as food. Watch your trolley shrink and 80% of the building become irrelevant. That's not a diet — that's uninstalling the filler content.

Men who move from packaged products to single-ingredient food eat more, weigh less, sleep deeper, and stop needing the 3pm rescue coffee inside a month. The swap is so simple it feels illegal.
One rule for this week: if the ingredient list has more than five items, it stays on the shelf. You don't need discipline. You need one rule you'll actually follow.
